Haha! Thanks everybody! Here's what I have now. I was planing on using floating pieces above the screws to bake the indents of the screws in the normal maps. I think I'm going to move on to low poly now. Tips? Suggestions? Issues? All are welcome and appreciated.
Added a stand so he doesn't look like he's floating. Starting to screw around with the lighting. Also, how does a reflection texture work? I have mine hooked in with the diffuse texture. Should it be linked up with the specular instead (still being rendered in UDK)?
You should also look into using Bumpoffsets to create floating effect of ice on parts ofyour model. Also, if you have access to Max, use the Texture panel to render out a dirty SSS map, and tweak that as your SSS map to be used alongside the Transmission slots.
The roof supports should be curved, and the whole area is too narrow. You could use vertex painting (there are a bunch of examples on youtube) to blend between grating and fungus. The roots would probably be best as geo, and a couple of floating planes around the thickest parts for more volumetric fungus.
More work on the sci fi Halo door. I had to ditch a good few hours worth of work when I learned about floating geo - it had been getting really messy, but a redo helped. Now taking a breather before starting on the low poly...
I'm definitely not expecting "floating gun" Quake 3 arena...compare a more realistic game where you aren't running at 50mph. Far Cry for example, had a realistic movement speed, but felt much more smooth than the movement in the previously mention FPS hybrids...
ya I tried it and the fact u had to use there tools to make things... was lame. And how buildings often were like floating walls or floors made it look stupid. IF it looked like a real city where u could import ur own crap, then it be cool
Use the alpha of another map. :) You could use RGB for the colored spec, and the alpha for spec power (width). Actually, DXT5_nm is a format where you only use the Green and Alpha channels, leaving the other two blank. Something like that might float your boat.
his biography was on tv not so long ago here in the UK. basic jist of it was that he loved the show, got paid fortune which he never spent, the show was cancelled, he slumped into depression and died. His millions are still floating about in a back account somewhere.
Hey nice! I was just about to create some garbage bags too. Thanks for the GIF. Needed it! How did you make the crumpled paper? I don't know if it's because of the lighting or the lack of AO but your red railings look like they're floating.
