more speed modeling: around 20 minutes or so: a stylized cup of coffee , experimenting with color only, black outlines created 'manually' (clone object, flip normals, color black) and a bit of added effects in sketchfab https://skfb.ly/6KUB9
You are only using around 20% of the available texture space. Try breaking the UV's into multiple islands that represent each main area (one each for grip, blade and pommel or similar). Then try and take up as much of the texture space as possible.
Thanks for the reply, MrFrags. Decided to redo the materials and render using the scaline renderer following the video faking GI by placing bounce light around the scene. Still need to add more lights..Fixing the materials for the books.Render time 20 secs.

Shadron looks like it fits the bill, but it's £20 without a free trial. Kind of a deal breaker there; not going to pay for software if I can't give it a test drive. There has to be a free alternative kicking about, or even just proper tutorials for RenderMonkey.
My own ZBrush / Substance Painter brushes are 50% off right now with the code GWBLACKFRIDAY on Gumroad and Cubebrush. A lot of other people also have Black Friday sales on Gumroad right now, and everything is an additional 20% off on Cubebrush.
If you get paid $20/hr... and you work 4 hours overtime I night... you're actually making $13/hr.... Just gets to the point where you could be earning more money for doing some far easier.
i'd say 18-20 days is more relastic as a monthly average. counting in sickness and vacation times. of course those are not paid for the freelancer but instead of promising your client 22 days of work EVERY month, plan this into your daily rate.
Oh I see, you did a bunch of SG work on the barrel. All I can say is use Save Incremental, or set your Autobak to a greater number of files and a smaller interval, like 20 files and every 5 minutes.
yeah I am not doing pbr just now, so its really way of adding a little extra to the diffuse as an overlay and for example the lighting I bake in at 75 sel illum is very subtle ie maybe 20 percent overlay
