I think that depends on the shader? If I'm not mistake, blue is neglected when you have a Normal map crossed with your Aniso map, so an extra blue will subdue/unnormalize value, unless you don't plan on using a Nrm? IIRC, NURBS objects have automatic UVs assigned at creation. So extruding along a spline would probably work pretty well with a tiling road texture, you might just have to stretch the UVs a bit to ensure proper coverage. The best AI I ever saw was from DOOM3. I mean think about it, you hide in the dark, the monsters can still see you because...well...they're monsters (demons IIRC) and all they really wanted to do was kill you, so the beeline worker wonders.
