Without limiting the challenges to sculptorts I think echorche drawing where you draw muscle on top of a photo is really nice. I saw Scott Eaton's and they're beautiful.
drawing on the right side of the brain is good for the absolute newbie but I wouldnt recomend it for someone progressing in their drawing. I do have the book though and it did help me in the begining.
Go learn your fine art foundations. Figure drawing, still-life, painting, perspective, drawing. Even if it's a cheap class nearby, take it. This is stuff that stays with you forever.
No zbrush? Ok...how about....drawing out a concept first...THEN modeling? If your anatomy in your drawing is on point, then you shouldn't have many issues on your 3d anatomy.
