I can't make any suggestions for AO in Blender, but might I suggest simply copying a VMT from an existing item in the game? I've done it and it's worked out pretty well.

Add your geom - make sure your geom is selected - click MTL <No Custom Material> Then hit the file icon with the plus sign in the material window (add new item) Done !
Well then i guess it really depends on your drop rate now In Demons souls you got special items no matter what now they want you to grind and raise for yours.

Your riki set and SK set are brilliant but your lion item is a cool concept but I think the tentacle things need an improve in texturing so they dont look so plastic :)

Simple, but solid looking item. Wood texture could use a bit of loving maybe. Glad you managed to get it working in the end. Did you manage to get mesa installed?
