The point is 3DS Max is still the most used 3d application for games. It easily has the most extensions, plugins, and tools that are video game art related. Sure Maya and Modo are growing in popularity, but that doesn't mean you should quickly dismiss it.
After much experimentation, I've got a decent workflow down to generate color maps quickly. It's fast and fun, so I will make a couple variations with different patterns and tint. This is shaping up to be probably my favorite model so far.
Every 3d software has the same terms even photoshop when it comes to rendering. So the basic stuff you need are those terms, and if you are familiar with them you can learn it quickly. Then it comes down to the interface and different tools.
Thank you so much for this @theStoff ! As an animator and a fan of the Legend of Zelda franchise, it feels like Christmas :D I opened the scenes quickly to see the rigs and they're really good. I'm excited to do some animations with those characters :)
apologies for the delay, with 'dominant edges' I meant edges like these They are often sharp edges and hidden from the main views (e.g. inside, underneath,...). It's very quick to quickly mark edges like that and then already have a decent state to start from.
Took me almost half a year but I decided to pick up my diorama scene again. Most of the things are quickly filled in so I know it looks quite rough right now. Next update will follow sooner then this one :)
Quick update, I wanted to add some sort of organic something to the scene and quickly did this cloth. I'm no expert with Max's cloth sim so I just did a very basic drape and sculpted it out a bit more in ZBrush.
Not a bad foundation. I think your edges could use some pop in the diffuse. I recommend baking out a cavity map and overlaying over your diffuse. You could always download Gnald and give it a go pretty quickly.
Thanks for the advice, Jessica! You're right about all of it-- I've been trying to finish him so quickly there are definitely simply details I've overlooked. Especially with the presentation shots, where I just want to get things over with :P
I really like the new "as quickly as you can" beatdown system they have. My only problems are the lock on distance of the gravity hammer, you literally glide through the air, and the one-grenade deaths. Keep up the good work rens!
