just got back from my interview in leamington spa. Well it was a bit of a waste of train fare really I felt pretty relaxed going in there, but it was just one of those interviews that kind of sucked from the start. I actually spent more time chatting with the HR than the lead artist, which is never a good sign, as is not…
http://www.offworld.com/offworld-igf-2009-01.html For those of you who have an interest in indie gaming, this article should make you smile. These aren't the type of games that generate the type of interest that an AAA title does, so to have all these gems in one place is a great way for people to get a feel for them. I…
Hi there, I got a question on how to go about getting the UV's for a "complex" object to resemble the 3d model as close as possible. As you can see in the picture below the "railing" consists out of 3 parts: 1. The pillars (red lines) 2. Squares to support the pillars (blue lines) 3. Main support ledges (black lines) I…
Welcome Logen Ninefingers. This is one of my favorite fantasy characters. He's one of the main "protagonists" in a Joe's Abercrombie "First Law" trilogy (and in a few more books from that universe). If you hadn't read it already, then I strongly recommended it!A lifetime project for me) Started it when I was only beginning…
a second uv set is more mesh memory and generally harder to place and manipulate than decals decals are generally more expensive to render, involve an extra material, can lead to sorting/depth related artefacting and are generally more work to manage. modular construction makes sense if you need to repeat a lot of…
Hard to tell what's wrong based on that one image. Make sure you have a mesh with collision beneath the player and there is no other collision pushing the player through the ground on start. Test-play in a fresh template scene to check whether the issue is related to your level.
I used to: Model using almost only extrusions and some bevels due to fear of having bad topology, avoiding triangles and ngons like plague. Now: I use chamfers, booleans, bevels and every tool and modifier I know to break the shape, prioritizing form over topology and making my life a lot easier when unwrapping. I used to:…
Aaaand I'm back! Not a big update as to be honest, I've been relaxing a lot since the new job :D but I'm slowly getting back in the swing of working on the lab. I've been playing around with the lighting, materials & post-processing and feel like it's a lot more balanced now. Looking back, the center was really washed out…
I find it best to take a walk outside or chill in a cafe (no, starbucks and other im-a-work-at-a-coffeshop-hipster-with-my-macbook places don't count). Watch the people outside, or find a place with a garden or some nature to watch and relax. clear your mind. wait till new ideas start forming. I really hate looking at…
Oskar!: Thanks heaps! The eyes have a secondary layer for accurate shine. marcobar: Thank you so much! It's nice to hear that sometimes, y'know. I hope I can only continue to get better in the future! ilsem: I'm happy you like them, they're the ones that are just sort of relaxing for me to do so it's nice to hear they're…
