This is turning into a silly debate over a dumpster but the thing is you will not see a dumpster or almost any object for that matter that has a texture of 4k, even 2k by 4k in a -shipped game-. It would be a waste of resources and would be the first thing to get shrunk down in an optimization pass. -

CoD Ghosts was also 50GB and shipped with 4K textures so I'm guessing that is the case here as well. I wish 4K textures were just offered as a secondary download. I know I never use them even if they're available and I'd rather have the extra harddrive space. -

I would say perfomance. If a tool offers a great perfomance, painting in a 4k screen for example with zero problems, and has all the actual and needed features, then it would be a good choice. That includes 4k monitor support, of course. A good and ultra-fast brush engine is a must. UDIMs, projection and normal painting,… -

here's the final bake for the model, it's at 4k polys the low poly wireframe and the high poly model I'm unsure as to whether its better to have the textures on two 2k texture maps or one 4k texture map, they are on two 2k at the moment. Any thoughts or feedback on this would be helpful! -

Actually now that I think of it, we can't optimize these models for a game engine with the resources/time we have, so we may end up exporting 4k renders and have Unity or Touch Designer play them back. Which means Maya/VRay and 4K support -

No! I think 2k is good for this grenade. I bake with 32 Padding on 2k Maps. I would use 4k for highly detailed weapons. But i think...you can bake in 4k, then you have it, and you can scale it down whenever you want. Also downscaling gives you Anti Aliasing :) -

Just one final tip i use : I bake the textures on 4k or 8k. Then i use sharpen tool inside photoshop and then i scale them down to 1k. This way you manage to preserve a near 4k pixel quality on a 1k size texture. Time for some few hours sleep zZzZzz -

Sintel has been released in HD here. They've finished the 4k renderings from what I can tell, but I don't know if/when they'll put that version online because it is about 650 GB. So yeah, big. http://www.sintel.org/production/sintel-the-hd-version-scaled-from-4k/
