I think you could lose nearly 80% of those tris on the back part of the sofa and just let the normal do its work. right now where you have them popping out to break the silhouette it looks spikey and uncomfortable. if you just simplify the mesh and just have the rounded off it would look more plush i think. you would never…
Thanks for all the ideas everyone. I was thinking about this and was wondering if it would be possible to do with a bone rig. Maybe I am tackling this from the wrong angle since I want to artistic control over what's happening. The problem is that I would need many many bones in order to get this to work correctly possibly…
Dunno if the actual article has been posted yet, but here's Mike Fitch's article on that http://www.pixelrage.org/news/Michael-Fitch-talks-about-%60Death-Of-Iron-Lore%60-6096.html And here's a similar one from World of Goo http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2008/11/acrying-shame-world-of-goo-piracy-rate-near-90.ars The…
Wasn't the battlegrounds stuff added at a later time? There was also a big update when they added the big bug stuff. Those were both big enough to be considered as expansions as mmo's are concerned. They can get away with it though because it lengthens the playability of the original product while giving them enough time…
it's certainly an interesting concept, but no matter how it progresses I don't think it will ever completely replace owning a home pc. I mean, obviously games will most likely go digital distribution soon (keeps seeming harder considering next gen games will probably be like 80 gigs), but even by then bandwidth should be…
After 14 something years as a hobbyist just modeling vehicles alone, I'm also still learning how to be efficient having not previously worked in a production environment/studio so my recommendation is to look into workflows authored by specialists. For instance Karol Miklas amongst others, I believe will provide further…
This is looking great so far, keep going! I think the video is not helping much, since Youtube won't load the 1080p until halfway through the animation. So everything looks blurry from the start. It would be better to have high-resolution screenshots instead, for example 1920x1080. The mesh for the green energy effect has…
Thanks. I get whats required as a whole. But its efficiencies in dealing with the volume thats I'm finding tricky. Its an old engine and we'll need the usual colour, normal, spec, gloss so I'll be wanting to use substance for texturing them quickly and consistently. But that will require high res for baking each of 80…
The enigne isnt only what you see on screen. There are a lot of tools and workflows designed around the gameplay. Whats easy in one engine might be difficult on an other. All the Artists and coders in big studios are experts in the engine they use for years. Starting from nothing in a new engine isnt allways a good idea.…
