Yes, there are 'gems' on deviant art but those are few and far between the anime and furry fan pages of 95% crap and 4% mediocre art, and the 1% awesome sauce art. Deviant art is known in the art circles as where art goes to die.. :D -

not that i'm a fan of the new remakes but there is a settlers classic series done by funatics/bluebyte which pretty much takes the old gameplay and puts it into more actual 3d graphics, as far as i know you can even load your old maps ;) -

He's far closer to what I think of when I hear of a character called a gas giant though. I'd take that one and push it much further into a big, fat, floating farty guy. What's your sun guy look like? -

Those aren't bad attempts; you've included landmarks that don't crop up very often in students' works. I get the sense though you're copying what you're seeing in books and references without having internalized them, hence the feeling something is always off.
