I've done (non-game) freelance work before, and have had some odd specifications for it I had to conform to. Just think of the 7k tris and single texture sheet as "unusual specifications for a freelance solicitation" - shrug it off, work within the limits set, and pop out the best model you can! -

waaarg back :P dabbled in some freelance for a bit (need more freelance practice) and then got mega lazy and did nothing for ages (did start working out again tho and eattin better :) ). Real slow start to getting this goblin done. Bunch more to go but gettin stuff blocked in at least. -

Relative to the game industry, it would be like Bungie hiring a freelancer for a Halo game and that modeler selling 3D prints of the character models he made using Bungie's concept art. Even if the freelancer somehow didn't sign a contract, he certainly doesn't own the rights to any of those characters he modeled. -

Doesn't make much sense, really. If you got good education, there is no reason you would go to cheaper country to work for less money and for A or AA project. Only exception I see is if you go to some warm place and work freelance, but you don't compete with native people in there, because, well, freelance.
