Hey Eric, Make sure the surface that the shadow is being cast on is set to the correct lighting channel. Also try messing with Composite Dynamic lighting channel. Edit: Meshes must also have their lighting channels set to Dynamic/Composite Dynamic for them to receive dynamic lights. I wasn't sure by your post if you were…
Eric: A guy over on the OGRE forums has got a 3dsmax viewport displaying the OGRE3D engine which is a real-time, in-engine version of your Max scene file, if I'm reading correctly. Here's the thread link, maybe there's some information you can use there:…
Thanks guys, Eric I think I have been through most of those tuts, it left me with too many choices! Ghostscape, thats exactly what I had in mind! I've had other feedback suggesting that B is a much better option though! I guess both could be as good, I just have to choose one and go for it.
Eric, in the last pic, I think that's the lowpoly - he's modelled the divots in after baking the highpoly onto the flat surface, just shows that the object-space normal-map will still hold up after the lowpoly is edited. For a firstperson view model on a current-gen FPS game, modelled detail like that can really help sell…
@Eric Chadwick I should've specified that I am using a height map. I was originally using the height map of the dirt but instead switched to noise because I like the effect more. I'm using the 'layer blend' node to make it work. This is the new height map I've been using to try and force the contrast / sharpness a bit…

Hey guys, A lot of the hand painted pieces such as Erics and CerisierEnFleur has inspired me to get my feet wet and practice some hand painted metal and wood. I've never done it before (always been working on realism) so figured it would be great to take a stab. Here's my results .. feedback is appreciated. Thanks everyone…
When I'm doing a sky sphere, usually I just use a dome and squish the horizontal HDRI map into a square (so take a 16384 x 4096 and resize it to 4096x4096) and then run a polarize filter on it in Photoshop. Eric, why would a 4K skydome be so bad? It's a single texture loaded once. I'd have assumed most GPUs can handle the…
Thank you Eric! Retopology will be bitch on this one. I think I will call the Sculpt done at this point. Had trouble gasping the shape of a Joystick, so I took some clay and made one that felt comfortable to hold which I then translated back to 3D. I also got back into the habit of doing small studies to get better at…
@Eric Chadwick That's a cool idea but a trim sheet probably wouldn't be worth it for these kinds of models. They aren't held together by bolts/rivets and things so there isn't a whole lot of minute detail, and getting each piece to match a part of the texture would be a pretty tough thing to do. That'll be a good thing to…
