Well a torus unwraps as a square grid so I can see the point. If thats stuff like foliage you are doing ... I would expect it to work! Sometimes it's just a matter of trying stuff. Also it's not just cylinders or toruses. A cube with no top or bottom cap, and rounded corners, could work just fine...
Are the shapes radically different? Transfer Attributes can (sometimes) get you closer to what you need across different shapes. Without seeing what you've got going on, I might suggest Based on Camera, then snapping all the lower border uverts to each other, then to the grid, and try a UV Unwrap on the remainder.
Philip Klevestav posted a decent tutorial that might be of interest to you: http://www.philipk.net/tutorials/modular_sets/modular_sets.htm That's more for internals, but a lot of the principles are the same. Stick to a grid, break stuff down as much as makes sense. Don't break it down to such a level that it becomes…
The trouble is its off the axis, and its kind of an awkward area that I doubt would be easy to model in the ortho views even if it wasnt. I've sorted the clipping plane. I thought I was modelling in a proper scale. Is there some kind of limit, that objects should be x bigger than the grid? Thanks for the help, doods!.
Add an Editable Poly modifier if you haven't already, select the Polygon subselect mode, and look for Polygon Properties (I think). It's a grid of 32 little buttons, underneath or above it should be a button that clears your smoothing groups. You can then select individual polygons and assign smoothing groups to control…
Joshflighter: Thank you. :) Frump: the grid is fixed. erik: the shadows are blue on my screen. This is just a temp lighting setup. killingpeople: Its a tavern now. Sectaurs and PureWall: You're right about the ground. I overlooked it before but I don't have enough time to change it now. Vig: Thanks. Heres an update:
Looks nice so far. I have a quick question regarding the Lasgun ball turrets on the side: did you eyeball align that on an angle against the tank or is do you use another technique? I'm pretty addicted to the grid and sometimes things get a little messy with rotation and such, so I'm just curious.
Lighting panels are so amazing and cheap. As an example, both those panel frames and diffusion fabrics were about the same price as just the fabric grid on that small softbox. In B&W, color balance doesn't matter, so I could literally have 40 euro hardware store lights behind them.
Area-F Environment : Development Diary https://www.artstation.com/artwork/ybvr25 Hello everyone again, I wanted to share a job I did a few months ago for the school where I study, I created a documentation to accompany the work and I would like to share a little of that documentation by creating a post on this page. + 0 to…
Here is my lowpoly wolf with all of my maps applied, and a base texture. I am still trying to figure out color choices before I put too much detail into my diffuse. I am also playing around with fur grids on the body, trying to get a look that I like.
