Hey all, first time poster in this thread. Been trying for way to long to get this shap right, any suggestions? I'm doing the high poly, so I need all the support edges for nice rounding, but I am getting a lot of pinching :( Here is the ref, and what I have so far. Eric, Thanks for the info and I really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. I'm fairly new to this type of modeling, because my experience has always been mechanical and precision (i.e. Solidworks and Pro-E).
It's okay for normal maps and I think that's what you're going for, right? It's not okay though if it gets sent to a studio doing a CG intro for your game, because some poor soul then has to fix your lazy modeling... ;)

You are right. It is straight/flat(but is slightly angled). Did you use boolean to get that part? Or simply make the curved part and then the flat elevated part and bridged the gap? As it looks angled to the left in the circled picture. Thanks in advance.
You're absolutely right about that, but once you go ZBrush you can't go back. Iteration on a mesh you've put into ZBrush becomes damn near impossible and could potentially cost you a lot of precious time.
@perna I Honestly don't get it , This image is right lol ? If you talk about the pinching that can be bought by edges near each other in the depth direction of the Cylinder I second that , Smooth good on my side anyway :)
Hi, guys. I'm modelling the pan of a Flintlock Pistol. I think I already got the low poly right, but I'm having issues with the HP. How should I modify it so that it works well with the subdivision modifier?
Soooo.. have real problems with this mesh. have no real clue how to solve it. if someone could point me in right direction i would be a happy puppy. This one feels like its beyond saving but not really sure.
