You can crease in Max by selecting your edges and ramping up the Crease value located under the Edit Edges section of Edge component mode. One thing I don't like about creasing in Max is there's no default feedback (like Maya has) that shows an edge is creased.
Well, overall this topic is really quite complicated ... mostly because there is just so much partial (and sometimes straight up incorrect) information out there. Now in your particular case here the Maya shading (according to the default Maya shading calculation, which is *not* standard compared to other apps, as Maya…
Hi everyone! Today I want to tell you how I created a highly pligonal model in Zbrush on the example of a hull. Для начала я экспортировал свою модель из Fusion 360 в Zbrush. Next, using the DynaMesh function, I subdivided the mesh to create chamfers and other elements that reveal the history of our hull. I used the Polish…
Kodde I noticed on your second example you are using the same UV layout on both the all soft and the hard normal instances. With soft normals its a good idea to keep UV's connected but where you have hard/split normals the UV shells should be kept separate. This is why you are getting nasty-ass seams on your hard…
The only thing quads seem to be useful for is a smooth work flow within modeling applications; they just give the convenience of hiding and ignoring these triangle edges that cut through every quad or ngon on your model (regardless of whether you can see them or not). Some tools/techniques start to break down if triangles…
*Thoughts from down the line in 2016* If I was handling this issue now in time I would have started with a nozzle cylinder with more Subdivision Axis's (Axis'? Axii?)... A nozzle cylinder with more edge loops (like 16 instead of 8). a lot of the problems I was having here were spawned because I didn't have enough geometry…
hi fingus, great work, keep it up  as it seems that you are trying to be historical accurate and one of my "real life" hobbies is reenactement, let me try to crit a few minor points: concerning the flutes on your breast and back plate: - the sharp edges are raised and the lower parts are at "ground level", - the…
I've been using Blender for retopo for the last two days, and I'm finding it quite adequate for my needs. What exactly do you mean by split polygon? Did you know you can select any edge or ring of edges and use 'subdivide' to split them? This really only works in edge mode, not vert mode, so if you're one of those madmen…
Maybe you are thinking of Lightwave's modeler, which doesn't support true edges, edge loops, nor ngons for subdivision. Modo has edges and the tools to edit them with. Some of its edge tools are part of why I've been moving more and more of my modeling over to it among several other things like it's selection tools,…
watch out for those sharp edges on your weapon, soften up more than often your edges for the bake! Try keeping the edges consistence, Especially on the smaller parts, like bolts and screws, those needs more soften edges to bake down better. Aber das machst du gut Dario! <3
