Trackball is on by default. I don't know why. Definitely turn that off and see how it feels.

Effects can't be made, they're only available for the weapons that already have an effect on the default weapon.

Yeah default zoom is ctrl + alt + mmb. MMB pans (without ctrl shift or alt).
