I just tried this and seem to work fine if you tile the map with bitmap options. Make your wall 1 x 4 and have the map tile 1 x 4 and see if there is a seam. I had a seam appear if I cloned the geometry and tried tiling it that way. Alex
You work at Ubisoft so I assume you already looked at Beyond Good And Evil :P? Its all vertex lit but they hide it very well. Also make sure your rendering the vertex colors with 2 or even better 4 times modulation (TextureColor*VertexColor*4).
And Finally this is what the final character model looked like inside Unreal 4. I used Substance painter for the texturing and Marmoset for some of the (what im calling previz) rendering to get a nice idea of what it would look like inside Unreal 4. Hope you guys like her final render!
Actually, theres a big lack of shadow in Quake 4 MP maps. In other words, the light count is down a lot, so having a 4-6k model wont hurt it at all. Its not like Doom 3 where you had your model cast 5-10 different shadows, they really optimized it.
