I try to stick to racing and platform games with my 2 sons (2.5 & 4.5 years). There are enough fun games that don't involve much violence or at least realistic looking violence. These days Lego Star Wars II co-op rules my Xbox.
7zip is strange. Best compression format I've ever seen. I remember having an image file of Vagrant Story, which was around 700 megs, yet somehow with .7zip, it was compressed down to 90 megs. |: | I digress... Hopefully those maps are fun maps. : )
Yeah it's definitely tons of fun and rewarding once you get it all working, but be careful! One miss step and the engine will sh*t itself...Had that happen several times. Luckily Cryengine will try to save things for you when you crash. it's kind of nice.
Definitely a good start. Good choice of scene, by the way. The shapes are all fairly simple and shouldn't be too much of a pain to UV. Those cogs are gonna be really fun to texture too. Keep it up, this was one of my favorite scenes of both those movies :P
Ravanna: I do some of both, in Zbrush I do the deep scratches and nicks/chunks instead of in PS, mostly because I have more fun in Zbrush! But I will paint in more afterwards. I'm not sure if this is good practice or not. Can anyone else chime in?
The videos show the best works I think, esp the Crater shooter game. Looks like fun! The img of dog, rifle, elf, are nice but I'd be nice to see wires, UV and texture at like 25% or 50%, just to see how you pulled it off.
Okay I don't get you. On the very top of the very first page of Jeffro's tut, there's a link to the ActorX download page. http://udn.epicgames.com/Content/ActorX You won't be needing that until you've completed your model, unwrapped it, and bound it to a skeleton. Have fun then.
Another update, added nails, a few tweaks and such: Still lots to do (ends of the clothing are rounded and sucky for example) but I'm going to set this one aside for a spell and start another project, which I'll start posting up soon. Should be fun. In theory :P
True +1. I've had the displeasure of working with 3DSMax engineers developing a custom authoring tool for Sony. And while the guys were really cool and fun, it was a fucking mess and a complete waste of 10's of thousands of dollars on something that didn't even work a little bit.
Well even if there is more fights, it still can be fun. I just hope they won't make us endure another clumsy story with awful cutscenes. To me, THAT was the worse part of the game. Pretty weird when you know they hired a writer to work on the story. Hell...
