Height blend in Sampler
Why when I am using height blend + paintable mask in Sampler I get this sudden height cliff ? . My guess the paintable part of a mask should multiply or add on one of two layers height . When I do same kind of depth blend in Affinity photo or even Photoshop there are never such artifacts. I tried smooth and blur slider but… -

Yes - go into brush --> auto masking --> back face masking This auto masks the polygons with normals facing away from your brush. That from memory so the actual menu its in night be wrong, but I don't think it is. Also you have to set this feature for each brush you use, so if you switch from clay tubes to clay buildup… -

You need to set the blend mode to transparent rather than masked. Masked is for areas of the material(in this case through your opacity mask map) that will or will not be rendered. Also to note, UE4 translucent materials can have alpha rendering issues when blended in this way. I prefer to set up glass/non-glass assets… -

One or two planes could work but if they are actual planes, then you need a mask for them to mask out the circle shape.If you dont want to use that mask, then you can use circle shaped planes with the half amount of sides that you used on the needle.Maybe it would be enough if you would make just the outer glass side if… -

I think I got it working. Turns out your subtool is only partially visible, and also has a mask on it (probably by accident). This should solve it: open the file, and in the Masking rollout first click on ShowPt to unhide the rest of the subtool, than go to Lvl2 (press D), and finally, hit CLear to clear the offending… -

I'm confused as to what the problem is here, it sounds like you're over-complicating things for what is at most a 1% gain in performance in some cases you're pointing out. I think some pictures/examples of the stuff you're talking about would serve better as to how big the models/texture/shader is for this specific case.…
