Some previous work. I'm not content with the texture detail. I was and still am fairly new to texturing so finding the key details was challenging. Totals 56k triangles.
About the power of 2 textures. If you look at maps used in published games they sometimes use things like 768. Bungie has tons like this (the reach forklift).

I made this in less than an hour, you could get good results if you Unwrap it correctly and you make a High poly model for it to bake some normals. 548 Polygons
