Sci fi hallways are always a blast, good for any skill level. You'll brush up on creating geometry in creative new ways without worrying about it being "right" since it's sci fi, and kick up your metalic texturing which is always fun. Most importantly it gets you thinking modularly which is a core skill to have, work…
Thanks for the props guys ;) Kevin, not too bad for your second semester using Max ;) Now, onto the asshole tearing: The grass and green shit all along the buildings are far too uniform to make sense. It would generally be heavier near the bottom and work it's way up if it were this thick. I know you are doing this…
Thanks everyone for the feedback so far! I must say I am surprised with the feedback on the post-processing and fog. I thought the post-processed version would be favored over the plain version. I think I'll try to find a middle ground with the post processing. -brandoom: The skybox is a default skybox from UDK. I am…
You can combine multiple textures into a one, but separating out textures from one into many is a lot harder. So usually if I don't know exactly what I need, it's best to keep everything separate for testing, then you can combine later. It's been awhile since I did it and I ended up going towards character art, but I…
Yeah, no problem. They worked really well. You can always adjust the intensity or smooth it out. The textures are part of the project files from here: http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/store/products/tutorials/vmo01/. Also, read this: http://www.philipk.net/tutorials/modular_rocks/modular_rocks.html
The blurry padding is done with the Solidify filter, or something similar. There are a few different ways of getting that effect. MIPs: http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/Mip_Mapping These articles explain how the UVs and textures are laid out. http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/Modular_environments
i've never done one before myself, but i think that would be very specific to the goal at hand. Like how large is the environment, can it be broken up modularily or is it going to be mostly unique, does it have to be in an engine? Sorry i cant help much but it just seems like a very broad topic
