i had paintshop pro and figured out how to paint quake skins, that led to me working on some mods - so mostly stuff around the internet. Polycount helped out too
Mostly Polycount, personal experiments and random write ups or mini-tutorials around the internet. I'll be attending Futurepoly starting later this month though and I plan to do some learning there too!
I learned everything I know about modeling and animation right here on Polycount, and from various other web portals. I was already fond of traditional sculpting before I started doing it on a computer, but the majority of my technical 3D education was from Polycount. For my programming, I took a one-semester course on C#…
I didn',t I forgot everything I know. But before that it was mostly from online tutorials and polycount and a bit of "polish" in school. Need a trad-art foundation though, everyone seems to have one, I want to join the club.
I started with Quake 3 tutorials here at Polycount. I attended some drawing studios which helped me as well. Of course books and tutorial videos have a large contribution too. I think the best way is to watch DVDs from Gnomon, eat3D etc. and post your work here for critique nowadays.
In terms of learning the basics of asset creation, the game art forum on CgTalk, then CGChat were where I cut my teeth. I was always a bit scared of Polycount back in the day! Then, once I'd managed to fluke my way into the industry I just tried my best to learn from better artists around me. I'm still doing that on a…
About a year and half ago I was tricked into coming here. Originally I was looking for a school to learn 3d, saw a post about someone graduating from Polycount, thought it might be an accredited school...was wrong. Turns out its full of people like ZacD, which is good I think. If I dont get my first job this year... It's…
initially various skinning sites as I did mainly texture work, started modding unreal. But then polycount back in about 2002 and ever since really. I did try some other sites like zbrush central, but got about 1 reply and saw tumbleweeds after that. same with cg society:) But i did go to art college for seven years prior to…
Haha same here , I wanted to quit each year but changed my mind each time. In the end i'm pretty glad i endured all lof it even if it took me an extra year. I learned a lot from school but i learned even more by just doing personal work and trying to get feedback from different places including polycount. Now that i'm…
I learned all I know from playing with 3D software and looking at other people's stuff on the internet. A very healthy dose of traditional art training also contributed. And vcortis is right; this isn't exactly a field you can succeed in if you don't have the ability to push yourself. From my experience and judging from…
