How do I make a 12 strand rope/cord like the images below? Not talking about the individual braids of each strand, but the overal look of it like in the second pic. I know how to make a braid in 3D, but can't wrap my head around how to do one properly in Blender.
The normal subdivided cube will never be a perfect sphere, but you can just subdivide a cube 2 times and then shrink wrap it onto a sphere to get a more spherical shape.
@tehrobster2 Someone posted this plane-shift + Bend method before, just use a FFD to get the grips shape and then "Create Shape" from the edges to get that Wire Wrapping.
I would first do a blockout with some simple cylinders. Just create one, and copy, rotate, scale and deform it with noise, lattice and so on. To give a better illusion of wrapped geometry the cylinders need to overlap nearly completely at some points. After you got the rough form make some detail adjustments. I know that…
Umm was one of the ways you was thinking about, modeling some of the shapes out of a cubes and then using a bend to wrap it around the cylinder object and then using lattice to push it into the side of the mesh ?
Usually there are direct tips for such questions here.. but.. i had no coffee yet ::sweat_smile: .. so: Blender from 10 years ago up to 10 month ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMGAmFjJGGs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkBSfC_KgVw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YE93-pFhzNE ZBrush:…
s6 - Modo is actually kind of a hybrid now that it has lattice and wrap and bezier deformers. Those stay live while you work so it's kind of like a partial stack. It's hitting a weird middle ground!
