Hello ... I have found this tutorial but I am not sure if is good for what I want to make ... https://vimeo.com/3413474 in the tutorial says to pick a mesh , but what I want to retopology ( for making a lower poly model mesh ) a whole set of subtools that are all already at max resolution and I can't merge into one single…
I'm using Maya 2008 and I'm trying to learn about glow maps. Google gave me a decent tutorial on setting up a layered shader ( http://www.swinburne.edu.au/design/tutorials/maya/texturing-glowing-texture-elements-maya-tutorial/46_Glowing%20Textures.html ) However, when I apply my layered shader to my object, my object does…
Spot on with the marketing message, I thought that was a little peculiar with the 20 minutes thing. The whole trailer has the feeling of being passed on to a marketing agency that has never played a MOBA game before and decided to make a tutorial on what they learned. I can get that for a tutorial video in the game, but…
Vig, thank you sooo much for posting those links! The tutorial/script are so awesome, I tooled around with the generator during lunch and I can't believe how easy/robust it is to use and how great the results are. Highly suggested to check out for those who haven't. Side note, I know you're using Mudbox Adam, but have you…
Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but I grew really tired of not being able to skip past cut scenes I had already seen. The beginning tutorial levels where brutal, I just wanted to play but it seemed that every 20-30 seconds control was ripped out of my hands. After the oppressive tutorials where over it got a little better…
The spacing tool will get the treads populated, BUT if you want to animate it, you're looking at quite a bit of rigging... Tank treads are some of the harder things I've had to rig up... I ended up using a method similar to Paul Hormis's dynamic chain tutorial to get them rigged up and flowing around a path. It was a bitch…
What's the polycount? Looks too low poly. Try increasing the poly count and the texture size. And you definitely have to mess with the specular map. The specular is the most important thing when trying to simulate a metallic material. I would leave that as a base colour, and would go crazy adding and tweaking photographs.…
Once you have an emissive map set up in the material editor, select the static mesh with the material applied (your pod) and hit F4 to bring up its properties. select StaticMeshActor -> Static Mesh Components -> Lightmass -> Check the box that says use Emissive for Static Lighting. Rebuild lights and rejoice. This link has…
What you want to do is set up a studio like something say in http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/autodesk-3ds-max/studio-rendering-with-3ds-max-and-vray/ or http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/luxology-modo/easy-studio-rendering-in-luxology-modo-401/ and go from there. Let it be known that it is SOOOOOOO much harder to get…
As a teacher at in a rather low end 3d art program, my advice? Don't do it. Most schools will really only be able to teach you the basics. I'd mirror what other people have said here. You'll get better bang for your buck getting tutorials from eat3d/gnomon/3dmotive or even digital tutors depending on your skill level. In…
