huh... that's pretty awesome how u can preview the UV and model ripping in realtime on the lowpoly.. :) . The only downside is exporting to OBJ, although I could write a script to do that in 1 click probably, but still. Otherwise, looks awesome, thanks for the link.
I like this!! Seems like you have a nice, simple environment/shader for the car's body. I personally usually do it realtime with a cubemap but! I was wondering what you used here. It looks simple and very efficient. Congrats on a nice piece!
Maya really needs to overhaul its viewport... I rarely see any issues in any other 3d app when it comes to realtime rendering, but Maya is buggy all over the place, and Autodesk only "guarantee" it will work on Quadro or FireGL cards!
Preview of the autovista interactive mode (all realtime) with some VO by Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear fame. Around the 3min mark there's also a full lap around one of the ribbons for the Alpine Raceway. [ame] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYna_DCPtXc[/ame]
thanks Target_Renegade, there is hundreds of goodies i know that are nicer than this one i was writing a book of 13 chapters, wrote 3/13, but was afraid that it makes no good sales, i don't think kickstarter would work for that... one example is realtime filters
i second krita the symmetry tools are awesome you can put your symmetry line where you want and it will draw the symmetry in realtime you also have radial symmetry which is alot of fun playing with also the brush system rocks :)
Here's a pretty dated tutorial on how to extract your matcap details, but like cryrid said, visual quality will probably not be as good since many ZBrush materials react to lighting in realtime. http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?36229-BAKING-MATERIAL-IN-ZBRUSH-tutorial
Typically the lightmap is on another UV channel, and the color and lightmaps are blended together in realtime. I don't know of any tools that do it. I wouldn't use render to texture since it actually bakes the two materials together, and will use more texture space.
If you are going for realtime 3D game models I personally would not present them with renders such as Mentral Ray since these are far from how your work would look in a game engine. Go for some hardware render such as Marmoset or similar imo.
I was gonna say Arroway as well. I've tried a few before and their quality is just stellar. Too much even, they give you these 8000x8000 lossless PNG's, it's not even suited for realtime in such a form. Things like Total Textures don't come close
