My first post, is something I whipped up but never completed entirely. The idea was to take a cartoon character ie sailormoon, and try to make a 3d representation. I didn't want to go cartoony. or be too literal in my "tribute" to the character. I also decided that if I was going to make her semi realistic I would not make…
Hey guys - finally got my cintiq 22 and after seeing how massive the thing was, decide to get an ergotron arm for better use with my setup. Pretty sure i installed the ergotron arm correctly and have tightened all of the fittings significantly but i am still getting a pretty ridiculous amount of wobble on the cintiq. So…
right, so i've always wanted to model characters, but i've never really felt "ready" to start doing it. my impression is that it's one of the harder things to model. up until now i've only done fairly simple props, never really got my hands dirty, but i can't learn how to model characters by modeling things that have…
Hi everyone, As per thread subject we are an independent studio founded by ex-employees of some pretty big games developers (Microsoft, EA, Codemasters to name but a few) who are working on a very exciting and as of yet undisclosed project. As the development of our project has been going extremely well and has been met…
Hi, everyone This is my first project working with sculpting and game engine software. I have some very rudimentary knowledge of 3D rendering as an intermediate level user of Rhino3D and a novice user of Vray. I'm going with a cave scene to train, pick up general skills and hopefully find what part of the process I want to…
I've taken a few classes with CGMA after learning modeling fundamentals by myself with Blender and have mixed feelings. I imagine that the classes vary significantly between instructors. All my classes were based around environment art for videogames. Intro to Maya was a fantastic class for learning Maya. The instructor…
Ah, cool. I would take a step back and do some overpaints to think about surface and colors. If you used animals as reference could source from there. If you didn't, still can retroactively look up different animals to get ideas of surfaces and surface transitions. Keep it up!
I'm sorry I missed this discussion when it was started a decade ago, and I'm sorry that the links above are broken, but I'll add my comments now for the record. I published a paper about pie menus in the proceedings of 1988 ACM SIGCHI conference called “An Empirical Comparison of Pie vs. Linear Menus”, in which we measured…
I would definitely check out existing switch games made with UE to spot potential issues and solutions (Fortnite?). Certainly many challenges can be solved early with appropriate art-style and level layout. I would avoid baked light for large outdoor scenes if possible (considerable lightmap size (ofc depends on asset…
Hello ! Well, this explains a lot :) First of all congratulations for your willingness to learn and study, you seem to have a great attitude towards all this. I would say that the pictures confirm that you are in a bit of a self-made echo chamber so to speak. You've obviously found something that works well for you, and it…
