Thank you all for the various methods. I think there is simply no way to do it without inset, and deleting the lines afterwards will cause issues--so having 2 extra lines shouldn't be a problem. -

really dark scene for that pixel shader in the viewport would've liked to have seen more perhaps with better lighting setup? maybe more colorful something super simple can do, like a group of colored pencils on a table or something just to show it off, that was interesting congrats btw.
