CONCEPTS Disclaimer: I'm better in VFX and 3D than painting. I'm testing styles and exploring renders for sands. Gathering for allegories like stones, pikes, moving sands, tomb shapes and mixing it. Probably I will use all this elements in a more affordable composition, based on the last concept [more clear].
Hey friends! I'm having some FX issues in 3DS Max. I'm creating a cinematic revolving around vehicles with electric coils and thruster fire. I'm using a Glow Effect for both the materials. The thruster fire Glow material is turning out great but the Glow Effect for the electric coils leaves the effect wanting because there…
In vfx you go straight to hell if you assign materials to faces. If something has a different material its a different object. Everything moving to USD is not making that better. USD is able to store per Face data but i wont recommend that.
Aw. It appears to be like 90%+ pure VFX stuff. Which is to be expected, but always disappointing. Maybe the new UV tools will be awesome at least. The video wasn't clear on what exactly got improved with that, but the current version did need a lot of work.
Hi there, It's kind of an air conditioning thing. Not pressured, just from the centre circular ceiling piece to 'cool' the place a bit. I struggled with the VFX part if I'm honest, do you think I need to make it more apparent? Cheers.
Never stop learning, as long as you have that mindset you will always be able to adapt to the changes in technology. When VFX "took over" stop-motion animation the people who wanted to simply started to learn and transition into the digital medium instead.
6 Years and many shipped titles. Not a single line of code. This probably goes for many of my fellow artists. In a large AAA studio there really isn't any need for it unless your a tech / vfx artist, but hey would not hurt to know :)
Freddiew, the popular Youtube VFX artist, got a chance to bring Rocksmith home and do vid on it. He was Guitar Hero world champ one year, or something, apparently. Anyways, you'll like this video: http://youtu.be/RuFEiVGKxSA boo on no embed :(
Anyway, my point is that the reason Mudbox has ptex support is so that it can be used to paint displacement detail for movie VFX assets. But even there it's not a clear decision to use it or stick to UVs (which can be used for a lot of other stuff too).
I'd be interested to see if you go over how you made that effect on the crystal in your breakdowns. I wanted to add something to mine but I assumed that's something a VFX artist would handle. Doesn't hurt to paint it in here, though!
