Spin off environment from this main project that I am working on for a bit to try and focus on just rocks, vegetation including trees and Terrain. I really suck at vegetation and trees still and want to improve on my rocks too because they are getting better but not quite there yet.
I want to spawn foliage (mainly moss cards and some mushrooms ive made) on some rocks within the rock material I have set up. Basically wherever the moss texture is, I want there to be moss cards that spawn. How would I go about this? I dont think I can use the same setup for spawning foliage on a landscape.
Looking much better! I just noticed the steps are a bit different than in the reference. Seems like there are rocks in between each step in your ref. Right now it looks like some sort of wooden beam holding up the steps. But if they are supposed to be rock steps it seems wood wouldn't be able to support them.
The texturing seems real flat to me. It could be the lighting though washing a lot of it out. The rock texture on the larger cliff face chasm thing has too much depth in it. If you are going to have that much depth in it then model in the rocks a bit more. Nice modeling though. Anxious to see this all textured up.
Those stones are waaaay to dense for the amount of detail you are adding into them. With their silhouette being hidden by the beams of the house you are wasting geo. I would suggest either alphaing the rocks to make them blend, or remove all the geo that is 'inside' the rock meshes that aren't contributing to the form.…
Hey ColdWolf, I like the construction of the model the thing that bothers me is the green wood planks don't have any vertical planks on the corners, right now it seems as if they were one continuous piece, the rock on the wall(is it rock?) seems a little too small for the size of the windmill.... can we see your reference?
I would build custers of small rocks and scatter hundreds of them all over the shore. right now it looks super flat. on farcry 4 we used literally thousands of small rocks, all instanced around edges of rivers and lakes. don't be afraid of polys at this point.
Thanks guys! I spent the day looking for more reference http://imgur.com/mA7tXcg http://imgur.com/vWZRk9g And I did a quick rock sculpt. I think it's a step in the right direction but it's not there yet. Mashed together in zbrush If anyone has any advice for the rocks that would be great.
I am no environment artist, but I think it looks great! The only thing I would start to do is to narrow it down to your best pieces. Such as, do you need rocks models when you have made entire environments that include rocks in them. -just a thought
I really like the rocks and the lighting, but i think you could add more to your ground to make it fit the scene. Some different layers of dirt and how its packed. If people walk or ride their horses through and pebbles and rocks.. and stuff like that... It's really awesome stuff.
