Do as people said above. You could also make sure that the overshot parts of the material share the same values as the underlying surface. You could also just remove the Geo, and bake those details onto the handle. In modern game dev, for console/pc, using anything less than 16 sides to a cylinder for something like this… -

A 50 hour long tutorial is going to take a long, long time, especially at beginner level.
