@sprunghunt I actually solved it , if you select the meterial by face , right click and go to 'material attributes' near the bottom of the list, it selects the right material :)

It's a sort of convenience when you always see your work as a whole, unobstructed by your right hand, palette and stick in left hand or whatever . Always on a big horizontal IPS screen . WoW causes the right click in Maya to go away?!? This is a joke, right? ...You are breaking my heart. I've never had the right click in Maya6 PLE work right. My husband will be grinning like a fool to hear that I will have to remove WoW to work on Maya.

Hell yeah, I hope Autodesk takes note and starts trying to just spread the love where it's needed between the two programs. I always said if Maya had smoothing group control like Max's, plus it's turbo smooth, and edit poly modifier it'd be insanely dangerous. But at the same time.. they're not trying to make one program…
