you probably need to source "AEfileTemplate" as that may get sourced somewhere else which is why it works the second time around. (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya\scripts\AETemplates\AEfileTemplate.mel). Probably better to use filedialog or filebrowserdialog to do the UI for selecting a texture rather than dealing with mel…
hi im a freelance character artist. i am interested in helping you with your project . i have experence rigging and animating for games i am an licensed Autodesk maya user you can see examples of my work on my website http://www.wix.com/nrphall/nichols-hall-3d-modeler#!
With 2014, Autodesk fixed the way they apply normal maps. http://docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/16/ENU/3ds-Max-Help/index.html?url=files/GUID-BFFFC7F4-8B39-435C-9015-A38245A3250B.htm,topicNumber=d30e499665 Here's a quick test in Max 2015. Small seam, but not a major problem, won't show in majority of cases.
Ha, NEX was the plugin that Autodesk adopted into their now, Modeling Toolkit (MTK). Haven't used Maya LT, so sorry for the probable incorrect comment before :) lol you can't really go wrong with re uv'ing it if it's just a simple card w rounded corners, etc. Shouldn't take long i'd imagine
Hey MesherKnesher - you need 3DS Max 2014 Extension 1 or 2015 or greater in order to use Quixel Colors with 3D Studio Max. Max 2014 does not support Python scripting by default. http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/maxstation/n212-extension-for-autodesk-3ds-max-and-3ds-max-design-2014-are-live
See if it created a polynurbs.mse script in your scripts folder C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2012\Scripts\LuisLlamas It created it for me but it seems the macroscript doesnt call it for some reason. You can drag that mse file into your viewport and it will bring up the dialog so you can test it out.
I agree 3DSmax used to be the standard but Maya has gained a lot of ground over the years, also why does Autodesk need 2 3D modeling packages geared toward the entertainment industry? They have Inventor for the CAD modeling and they have the 2D market cornered with AutoCAD, why the need for Max and Maya to exist?
Doesn't crash for me. Are you using the latest service pack? Aside from that, I would accidentally click it sometimes as well, I just removed it from the quad menu. http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-3ds-max-2014-service-pack-5.html
Its really hard to give some actual critics at this stage, but i think that the plans where the people seat should be a bit thiner You should check autodesk page and search for max updates, they realse bug fixes for them, if it keeps crashing check you video drivers and direct x maybe it helps
I'd say ... you can safely ignore any such "send to" feature. These things are likely not going to be maintained in the long run anyways. In other words : put your trust in Epic, not in Autodesk. Just export your FBX to any location you want, and UE4 will allow you to reimport it at any time, automatically or manually.
