Re: maya mentalray final gather 3+ bounces possible?
Hey malcolm, there is an other more hidden option: in the outliner, right click,, uncheck SHOW DAG OPTIONS ONLY, then find the midefault node and click on it, now in the attribute editor you should see more final gather options including Sec bounces. But as Glib mentions id dont know if this is a solution to your problem. -

My 2 cents: In my experience, the texture part really depends on the texture size, and the budget, and its really easy to track with the profiler. About joints, usually you'll want them to have at least 3 edge loops so when it bends the middle loop preserves some of the silhouette of the joint. Otherwise you'll have to go out of your way to keep them from squishing with the chance of it looking like crap anyway, even if you happen to create a corrective shape key… -
