No pun on the topic intended :O I was just wondering if anyone else finds with their paintings and drawings, whether traditional or digital, becoming looser and looser over time. Not sure if it's just my hand being lazy or what (I usually paint to relax and have fun / get better at drawing / hopefully be a plus on getting…
You might find this link useful in understanding how to think about texture sizes a little bit more: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=134911 You should also feel free to browse other people's environment work on the forums and see how they did things, as well as maybe look at the featured artwork section in…
For me personally, I love working on AAA console titles, that comes down to preffernce though. I like the 2-3 year dev cycle on a major AAA release, not only does it usually mean a solid income for a couple years unless the project gets canned, but those are the projects that are usually in the spotlight and look awesome…
I really feel sorry for you cooljay. The motivation and determination is there but your work falls far below even the most basic lines, yet you're still confident. Start asking questions please, if you see something you like and wonder how they did that don't try and recreate it (and cut corners) and say what it is, make…
Do you mean rather output color space set in monitor menu? A safe bet would be just setting you monitor to sRGB emulation mode in the monitor menu. If you still want to see "wider" AdobeRGB colors you really need a colorimeter and an exact profile of your monitor to see true accurate colors and not over-saturated ones…
You've made good progress on the texture, it reads a whole lot more like it ought to than before. Something else that will really help out the ability for your texture to "sell" this ship as believable and interesting would be to adjust the partlines. You don't have to get super scientifical to create mechanical things…
The first thing that stood out to me is that the grain in the wood is too big. Most guitars the grain in the wood isn't as obvious because the wood fibers are smaller. Also for a guitar the grain seems to usually run along the length. Also the frets seem very thick and widely spaced. I'd scale them down and make sure there…
This is a weird poll... I only say that because this has been covered alot in PnP and Gen Discussion on polycount. Here's an example of what I mean. Lots of the questions I see can be answered using the other boards/polycount wiki as a reference point :D 9/10 I find you will get a better baking method using a couple…
Well usually when looking through portfolios you might have to look at hundreds of them, and at least for me a demo reel is not something I want to see unless it's effect or animation work. As for the demo reel above, the first prop ran for 35 seconds, and I think most would want to see the next thing in maybe 4 seconds,…
I agree with reverendK. I usually think about the Monthly Competition as a place to make single items for, since people usually do sets all the time, and they take a while to do (over a month if you want something really good at least). I don't think having real world strong cultural influences would be that good. Sure,…
