I think the dumbest thing I did with Max for a while would be to ALWAYS convert everything into an editable poly, instead of using the modifier, so basically, if I wanted to go back, if "Undo" wouldn't go back far enough, I would either have to open an old save, or rebuild something. Editable Poly modifier for the win! -

Assuming the process is .. select faces, detach to element, move faces, select other element in element subobject mode.... I'm not getting it on max 2023 with editable poly or editable mesh objects or with edit-poly/ edit-mesh modifiers its the only version i have installed on this machine - what are you on? -

I did not know you could add modifiers with multiple object selected. I guess I just assumed you couldn’t when then modifiers box went blank while selecting more than one thing. Never actually tried add one like that. It appears to be working, thanks. -

Hourences' tutorial is great, but it's from 2008. It's a bad idea to use a complicated modifier stack like he has in some of his screenshots. Most of these modifiers are vertex-count dependent, so if you change the vertex count below them, they will be reset or will make bad data. Just something to watch out for. -

well thats what im asking :P whats the problem? the symptom is that the normal map doesnt smooth out the surface as it should, but i dont know what caused it. Quality normals modifier seems to fix it, so if i knew what the modifier did, then maybe i'd know what the problem is. -
Re: Blend multiple displacements problem
What do the settings in your Displace modifier look like? I would try the VRayDisplacementMod modifier, with a Composite map as the texture, and add the displacement maps in the Composite. This way you can use Masks for each layer, and you can experiment with layer blending modes (additive, screen, multiply, etc.). -

ah i see. thanks for that vrav. i'll see to it today. are there any softwares/plugins to help match surfaces that way? and OBlastradiusO: its a 'text' with a '+' and then i applied 2 appropriate bend modifiers. one of the modifiers will need to have its gizmo turned 90 degrees in some direction or another cheers -

"Doublesmooth" uses one Turbosmooth modifier set to obey smooth groups or a tesselate modifier on boxy models, to make the mesh dense while retaining hard edges, then a second turbosmooth to get those nice round subd corners everyone loves. I posted the render setup in one of the video comments. -
Selecting Vertexes in Unwrap to be used upon collapse
What I want to do is select vertexes in an UVW Unwrap modifier to be used for a selection in the VertexPaint modifier. This is to paint reds and blues for a wind effect, and being able to select the base of alpha branches on a tree in the Unwrap is way easier than going into the tree and hunting them down. Does anyone know… -
