Daaaamn dude. I thought I was getting a hang of substance but here this is :D . Other than trial and error and the Allegorithic Tutorials, is there any other tutorial that really helped things click?

Normandy is great, though a bit generous in the txr department like autocon said. I'd also drop the tutorials. Setting up folders in photoshop doesn't really necessitate a "tutorial" title
nope its a bit different, you must setup a renderqueue for the l3dview "view = UtilFunctions.simplerenderqueue()" will do the job, Zet also wrote plenty new http://www.luxinia.de/index.php/Tutorials/Tutorials

@BagelHero that tutorial was spot on, and those guys did a great job. Blender has improved a lot since I last used it, and good to see some quality tutorials to go along with.
@poopipe Thanks for this suggestion, haven't tried ordered dither yet. I came across this effect before, but didn't know what it was called.
