Strictly speaking those "crystal" patterns are some slant in micro crystal structure . Perhaps better is to make it very subtle normal map variation rather than roughness and a little bit color one
Had the idea to make a crystal that is a beacon for ships to guide them past the dangerous rocks that it's build on. I started with gathering some pictures and making a few sketches. After that I made a blockout it 3dsmax to see if it would look nice.
Sounds like a good plan with the tiling textures Omni if you want to abandon the Torchlight assets. its a little late for this but really e form seems quite chaotic and not actually focused, i understand its made of crystals but they seem kinda random. Also alot of those crystals could overlap on the uvs.
