I think the problem is that I was putting my .uc files in the wrong package so it wasn't getting called by the DefaultEngine.ini. I am going to try adding them to the UTGame package

Working in balsa wood is pretty easy. You can cut it with a razor blade. Basicly you have 2 options here: 1.
