Every time I've ever tried to learn & use Maya for anything, I've always torn my hair out in frustration. Thats awesome East. I use 3DC for retopo and never knew you could just draw the 1 line w/ stroke and have it fill in the number of sides. +1 vote for 3DC or even Silo.
model out a rough layout with placeholder art. From my experience: designer hands me a basic drawing of the level layout with run-times between capture points, I know a character can run x-units/second so I measure out and place capture points and plop boxes down representing various buildings and what-not.
You're still the one bitching the most about it though. Point is. It can't be all steams fault really since it works so well for the majority of people. Alot of services have faults and bugs yeah but it can't be as bad as you make it out, maybe you need a computer wipe? Anyway. PS: Fuck the maths. Pens are made to draw…
Half price, in fact. The Intuos 2 pen has a fault line around its middle. If you tend to draw heavy-handidly as I do, you might want to check out the Intuos 3 - I think they've redesigned the structure a little so that the damn things don't break in half after 6 months of regular use.
This is going to sound mean, but I can't help you if I don't know what I am looking at. If you are going to hold the pen in your ass cheeks when you draw, please use your hands to type comments as to what is what. Since the goal sounds vaugly complex I vote you Keep It Simple.
nice project! love the movie the hood on your model is far too wide. The reference pictures have a hood that tapers in. I find that modelling stuff where scale is an important factor, it's often a good idea to draw out the front, side and top views in a program like illustrator, then import these pictures onto planes in…
Try and get some more anatomy into the model. Right now it looks like four smaller tubes stuck onto one larger tube. Use the reference Soccerman posted, along with any other pictures you can find. Check out Jack Hamm's book, "How to Draw Animals". It's full of useful info on animal anatomy.
That's what I was going to add. You could use a different window manager. Actually, the XGL appears to be a program rather than a window manager since it's running gnome. EIther way, you can disable it easily I'm sure. My point is there ARE people that like the twirly windows and transparencies, and this desktop would help…
i use the mini-dvi one. ;) works fine for me. i have mine hooked up to a dell 24" screen without troubles. also sometimes use it on the telly with that adaptor. a laptop in a lifedrawing session only get's in the way imo. been there done that. you'll spend time setting it up and operating the software while the others get…
[ QUOTE ] side note - didn't know so many polycounters live in the seattle area... you know there's sketcgroup meeting in seattle every week that conceptart members formed about a year ago. [/ QUOTE ] Ouhh! Ouhh! Me! Me! Live Figure Drawing? Everytime I find a place that has figure sessions, they end up shutting down.
