oh nice so its texture quads \ polygons it it bone based anims or vertex morphs ? using for example the halflife source tools ? if you did that it would be easy to have him animating really quick in an engine

They probably are talking about painting in greyscale like an old style bump map and converting to normal map using a plugin. I prefer hand painting for fine details on flat surfaces. For example the scrollwork in this lovely submachinegun -

Thank you flow3d Normally I try to keep the density even in a model...but I figured the boots didn´t need as much form as the arms for example. Plus I wanted to keep it under 500 polys.
I vote for more vram cause we have trouble to render our scenes if the card has only 8gb. Renderman xpu for example recommends a min of 11gb vram. But if you dont render heavy scenes 8gb are fine.
