I have a simple model that I am trying to painting on within 3ds max 11 using the viewport canvas but for some reason when I paint on the model it paints the polygons on the other side of the model? Any suggestions would be greatfully appreciated.
Here is a hand painting exercise I did from 3d motive. This is my first scene using only hand painted textures. My main focus is modeling and not painting but in today's world an artist needs to know both unfortunately. Anyway here are my results.
these are usually standard paint with metallic flecks mixed in. regardless, is near impossible to represent car paint without a shader that has two specular lobes. one for the paint, one for the clearcoat. paint on weapons is just paint and should be represented as a nonmetal.
I feel it's possible to paint any given subject to the level of a 3d render or near, but what are some aspects to consider, to include in the painting to make it look more 3d render level .Ambient occlusion, spot lights, etc, any elements you guys can think of or techniques where i could perhaps make my 2d paintings look…

I've been running into some odd problems losing my vertex colors on meshes that I'm painting. After painting a mesh, sometimes I'll lose all of the data I just painted.
