If you're good enough, you can find freelance work. Depending on your level you might have to drop your rates to something fairly low when starting off - especially when dealing with indie clients on a low budget... but hey getting paid for what you're passionate about beats stacking shelves at the local supermarket :D -

Weird. What hardware are you running on? Maybe the graphics card can't handle it? Also maybe the defaults have been corrupted somehow. In Windows 8, 3ds Max stores the defaults in C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\<maxversion>. After you uninstall, delete these folders, then re-install. Maybe this will… -

My local shop still sells them at about $60 (Canadian) (Geforce 6200 256mb) Maybe you can find one on kijiji or craigslist for cheaper? I used a spare ati pci card for awhile back in the days of 1 agp slot. Worked, but slow for everything other than more desktop real estate :P -
