I hate open file dialog in max , It's ancient from around windows NT with always wrong files sorting and extra headache . So I usually just drop an object to viewport. Is there a way to make it keeping its world XYZ position ? It seems random when you drop a file vs do proper import.
You are correct You manually have to set the light type in 3dsMax. These are all things I have proposed to the 3dsmax viewport team for improvements already.
The Noise on 3DSMAX Bakes can be solved by using a Push with a low value. Ive read about it, but never tried it. I think the best Results in 3DSMAX are : Catmullrom / Hammerslay with 1.0
Is there any progress with the 3dsmax version? I mailed the HardMesh developer some time back and their answer was that they were trying to find a 3dsmax developer. They said it could take a year or longer.

I would really like a 3DSMAX version of this :-) I tried the Quad-Chamfer plugin and the default 3dsmax Chamfer modifier and both did not give good results.
3dsmax/gmax is actually an easier program, and it's MUCH more powerful. 3dsmax can render, but it costs a helluva lot. Gmax can't, but it's free http://discreet.com i think.
