I see this question on the dota forum pretty often, and I always remind everyone that there is a totally awesome, and relevant Dota 2 Tutorial Thread. It showcases a lot of techniques, tricks and tips that tons of the cool dota dudes use to make sweet items. Hope this helps, and start a workshop thread!! ;)
restricted access? either you show stuff or you don't I think some of your assets are a bit flat but overall looks good! Do you really want your substance materials be as one of the top showcases? seems like your power plant or reservoir are better or intresting
Man, nobody got the "polycount is your blog" thing. Damn :( Well, anyway, I gotta tell you, your blog is way better a portfolio showcase than your site. Seriously. The work is easily accessible, there's big ole thumbnails and full rez pictures with just one click.
Interesting to see some of the responses here. I treat those kind of movies as a CG showcase. Story always comes second. Ambitious cinema is nice but in my book anything with CG in it is pretty much a given opposite and that's how I treat it. Maybe that's why I know I'll enjoy it :)
looking good! I can 100% recommend marmoset as an investment, it is such a great tool for presenting your models. If you can't afford it you can also try using UE4 to showcase your models, I remember there being some community projects to make it more suited to portfolio shots.
... Somehow I thought you wanted to make characters off of Planetside 2 concept. But is it environment piece ? Also, yeah, like Mask and RexM said; don't use someone else's concept to showcase your concept. Use someone else's concept to show off your modeling skills.
I´m assuming the level design is what you are showcasing for the most part? if so maybe state what the map is designed for, like is it an online multiplayer map? or a town you would visit in an rpg?. It´s hard to judge anything when you´re not sure what you´re looking at.
Luge..don't worry if you don't have marmoset or ndo/ddo. Udk, unity, cry engines are available for free for personal use. You can just showcase your model in any of those or you can still download 1 month trial version of marmoset or ddo/ndo crazybump..
I knew it! Renaud was behind "Tracer" like too many other characters :) In some screenshots there is like an egiptian statue with Pior's style. Glad you all can showcase all this, it's a nice work. It's not the usual blizzard style but i like it, it's different, fresh air. Tell the animators to work in the eyes!
Lightmaps are great inside the modelling package aswell if you want to showcase your models in the viewport for whatever reason. I dont know how to do it in max but in maya you need to create a layered texture and link one UV set to the diffuse of the object and one UV set to the lightmap of the scene.
