Hi guys, how would you model the highlighted part of this grenade, for a hi-poly hard surface model with smooth-mesh-preview/ turbo-smooth/sub-d? (concept by Atomhawk) I mean, in order to get those nice insets (not in line with the cylinder "native" loops!), would you start with a poly cylinder with enough geom +…
Hey Guys, I'm new to this forum. I have an issue with a deceptively tricky but seemingly simple shape I am attempting to model. I'm sure there is a really simple solution but as I'm still learning modelling proper I seem to over elaborate often and as such I haven't been able to find the answer. I'm sure you can see my…
I can't speak to how you would do this in blender, or the context of the shape (directly dictating the size/width of the edge). But here is how i would do it in max. If it helps at all :) Starting from where you did, I did the following: Delete all capping faces. Set working pivot (does blender have one?) to the middle…
confused how i would properly do this chamfered bracket like shape with not tris and cleaner topology. here is the mesh with wires left is subdivided twice with catmull clark and the one on the right is on subdivided and i got the 8 triangles each has selected. i really want to find a way to make it and maintain the shape…
@R_Mutt2017 For this you may actually have an easier time in Blender if that's all you're after. I'm not much help with how, but I saw a video recently (no idea where, sorry) where a guy extruded edges for a similar effect. (his was kind of crazy in that it was a cube with internal "kittycorner" edges for a spectacular…
Hi there im having a trouble with modeling 1 shape. Its a roof. This is where im currently at: I've worked out sketch earlier and stuff, can't scan the pic right now. Anyway,i know the shape i want for the roof,i thought i'll make it,but im stuck. Here's illustration of what i want to make with roof Basically,i know i can…
Inset in max is like a bevel (extrude and modify size) with a height of 0 if that is what you mean. Maybe we should get a reference going of what the names are and what the tools can do, across packages. Because extruding edges works different than extruding a face etc. Well that's starting to remind me of the famous…
Heyd McGreed, usually this is how I do tube/cylinder connect in max. - create an 8 sided cylinder - duplicate/clone it by rotating 90 degrees - go back to first cylinder, use cut tool (with vertex snap on) while using the second cylinder's vertices as guide - hide/delete the 2nd cylinder - select the new faces/shape you…
The easiest way is the bevel modifier under the create text action. Then use a bend modifier to wrap it and another bend to give it that slope and leave it as floating geo. (Edit: you wont be able to smooth this text, but it will come out very smooth as is.) Insetting it on a curved surface would be ridiculously time…
I've read through much of the first few years of the thread and noticed a lot of talking about floaters. In particular the inset floaters intrigued me and since then I've seen video of artists doing it. I'm not sure how it works. Am I to understand correctly that the floater is literally floating over the mesh and not even…
