It is not that simple, you maybe did not spend enough time analysing it. They are a mix of handpainted style and based on photo/real life texture. hmm.. not really sure if this technique would look any good/is outdated but yeah.. something tells me that fur is going to be a bitch to figure out. IE not too long, not too short. Maybe keep it handpainted/normals for the face and body, and a few transparent planes around the tail and elbows to tuft it out? I don't know…
