Yes, this is a very strong approach to keep a coherent way of thinking when modelling. I could perhaps give a insight in my day job on how important this is: In structural analysis, when you are optimizing a body, this way of modelling is called parametric study. When you create geometries for, say a car dashboard, you…
Hi all first post on this lovely forum, been lurking for years. First time I've tried to do a full on hard surface model with turbo smooth etc. Ive usually just done mobile stuff but wanted to have a crack at some next gen workflow. The idea for the model I'm working on at the moment is to create the high poly to bake down…
@Yogifi Thank you. @tatertots Thank you for taking the time to follow up your initial question with a detailed explanation of what you tried and what you were looking to improve. Glad you found the posts helpful. Cylinder intersections is a good place to start and from there the v block project covers three different…
@Elphobos This thread is full of examples of subdivision modeling strategies so it's worth taking some time to skim through the pages and look at how other artists have created similar shapes. If there's an issue that's particularly difficult then post some images of the model in wire frame and subdivision preview mode.…
Hi everyone! I am very new in 3D community. I am working/ learning on a model, of a building from NY City and I came to a problem, which is holding me back for a few days now and don't know how to get trough it. It's a piece of decor, which I don't really know how to model properly. It might look like a simple solution to…
@iacdxb Start by blocking out the shapes to determine how many segments the arch will need to match the intersections with the vertical gussets. This dumpster looks like it's mostly welded plate and square tubing. The individual parts could be modeled separately or combined into simplified sub-assemblies. Since there's a…
@ralphykwix It depends on what the mesh is for and if there are any shading or normal errors. If it's a low poly model then there's a lot of loops that could be removed to optimize the mesh. If it's a high poly model then the edge flow could be optimized for cleaner subdivision and easier editing. A few things to consider:…
Hey guys! I've been working on my subd modeling lately and one of my challenges was a Clone Trooper helmet. I've run into some issues with my usual workflow on this as I've modeled separate pieces using different techniques making it a little difficult to combine without pinching. How would I also best ensure the shapes…
Continuing on with my B-2 model in Blender... I'm wondering how to go about another approach for sectioning off the wingtips. In the following image, I have an edge going from 1 to 2, but what if I wanted to have the edge continue on until it reaches the hypothetical vertex at 3 where the edge would follow on to meet the…
note: Just found out Curve Wrap is actually in 2017 as well. Its in the MASH shelf. This is kinda like a 'Zbrush curve tube' method but in Maya. If I recall correctly Curve Wrap is introduced in Maya 2018. So if you do not have access to 2018, this method will not help. Anyway check the vid. https://youtu.be/cQfjXcr9Y5c…
