ok first up, you dont need to model all the holes. Only do one and duplicate it all the way down because the model is repetative. 1: Make the diagonal cuts shown by the red lines 2: Chamfer the Blue vertice to make your cylinder 3: You should end up with something looking like the green line 4: Remove the red lines with…
On the topic of gifs in PS, two things that can save time A. If you have a lot of images saved out that you want to make into a gif(like the exported frames from the turntable tool in Marmoset Toolbag), go into bridge, selected them all, then do tools - photoshop -> load as layers B. Then when you have all your layers,…
If I was you, I would make it using spline shapes and a loft path. You might be able to get away with just 3 shapes, and then let it morph from one shape to another. At least it would be the easiest way to get the base shape, imo, especially if you want to adjust it. A video tutorial about shapes/loft can be found here:…
@Liam_CH looking at your ref quickly I cam see you need no more than 4 spans across the width and 7 down the length to block that form out. Use as little geo as is necessary and only add geo when you can't get the forms with the geo you have. A classic beginner mistake in both modeling and sculpting is to add way too much…
For shapes like that cylinder (where the bullets go), I count the ridges and half of the recessed parts on each side, and divide: 360/n. This gives me the degree of each of those sections. Then I model the profile of that one section making sure that the ends meet at the proper spot or when you merge points/edges, it won't…
Hehe you are mixing things a little! There is no ego involved, I didn't post any wireframe you know! No one is making the mood worse, we are all here to learn stuff. Also, I won't go into a game of quote pingpong since I think it's a waste of time. I though maybe I could suggest another formulation if you don't mind. Less…
The thing is, you will always have a pinch that is visible or barely visible, if you use less edge segments, try to land the geometry between the cylinders segments and use them as supporting loops. I used a 24 sided Cylinder, the more i add to my cylinder the "harder" i can get the edges to be. so this is my example with…
Just to be sure I follow you, is "edit poly" the same as using the "multi cut" tool in Maya? What I fail to understand, is why do you cut inbetween the existing topology, instead of using the edges you already have? What is the advantage of that? I thought about cutting a flat plane and the apply a modifier of sort to…
"@Joao Sapiro In your design you have 2 edge loops at the top most part of the inset vs a single center point one (like mine). In your experience does having 2 give better smoothing results then 1. Or does it not really matter and that's just how you modeled it?" what do you mean ? the edgeloops i added are done by a…
Okay. Here is my question: I want build a wall around my scene just like the guy in this tutorial (7:40). Problem is, I'm using Maya, and I don't know how can you do it like that there. I know you can do it in 3ds max using loft (gif), but it's not working in maya. The only way I'm thinking of, is using extrud along the…
