IMO, it's a bad idea to keep around old work for the purpose of showing progression. It just takes up space. Why should an art director care what you made back in 2006 or 1999, when they're clearly hiring someone to make 2018 stuff? In that case, get a SSD for sure, a better video card($150 is a good range). Better monitor. These are things that you're very likely to notice. The I7 2600 may be an option too, the extra cost is about equal to the extra performance(which is rare, usually you pay disproportionally high amounts for extra performance).… -

I know you're getting swept away by possibilities and want to jump right in, but i cannot stress enough how much time and money you could save taking some courses at a junior college, heck some of them even do 3d courses.
