ok rhinokey did bring up this in my other thread, since my other thread is all based around improving and sculpting its kinda stupid for me to post progress of this char in there, anyway just started base coloring and such, Still trying to figure out a good way to paint hair, but im gonna deal with that after base coloring is done to this guy.

as always crits and such welcomed

off topic but is there a way to render out alpha maps with normal maps on them via in the viewport?

I cant get the alphas to show when I have Direct X turned on?

I think you're jumping the gun a little bit with normal mapping him, looks like the sculpt could use further refinement. Its looking lumpy in a good few areas- bit more sculpting to do smile.gif

This does not look like you should be coloring it yet. The normals look very lumpy on the body and why is every feather the same shape? Surely you can afford some more texture space to diversify them as they cover half of the characters screen space!

I'm also not sure what the chest protection is doing? It looks like a plank slipped under his belt.

    Keep banging my man.

If I might be one of those annoying English language Nazi people for a moment (and probably make a whole bunch of nasty spelling and grammatical errors myself while I'm at it), Seraphim is a plural or Seraph.

His armour looks like it won't allow for any bending at the knees.

ok did some changes and started to paint my details in alot of places

I plan on jumping back and fixing a few areas via sculpting but decided to do some tests with the golds and metals ,

also the legs do bend I have them setup to be on a latch rotation system, that shinguard thing once moved will show its a piece that clicks in / rotates.

I still have yet to make plane alpha hair yet so its all filler for the moment

your normal map doesn't seem to be adding *anything* to the face. take a look at other's sculpts compared to their base meshes. low-poly is for the basic shapes and silhouette, normal map is for all the interesting wrinkles and pores and character. Yours has nothing, it merely hints at some scowling eyebrows. It doesn't even look like you painted in the hair.

your feathers look like tiny ones magnified. very unconvincing. there's also way too few feathers. You've got seven feathers along the bottom. seven.

take a look at this eagle's wings. they're not a handful of feather's splayed out, it's a full fan of a wing. something able to catch air and convey flight. can you see the shaft and breaks in the vanes? if it had your feathers, it wouldn't be able to fly they're so buckled and beaten.

last nite i tried to cook a steak. I love steak, it's my favorite food. I cooked away at this steak for hours and hours but it never browned. It turned out i had forgoten to light a fire in my grill.

What you are doing here is cooking a steak before lighting the fire.
you started a thread based soley on learning anatomy. but before you even got close you forgot all about that and took your first thing and have spent weeks tweaking it. And its not going anywhere, It still remains bloody and raw. Throw this in the garbage, and get back to your other thread and get that fire started.

you spent days goofing about on those silly feathers when they do not matter.
you can do this if you focus on what matters at this stage, and that is gettingyour foundations down. Retarded sword wings are not foundations. You are running in circles with this and are getting no where. Revisit your other thread and really learn how a head is shaped.

So come on sef. Get back to the basics and become a rocking artist and make us all proud.

And in a few months come back and look at this and go "Ughh"

    and remake him awesomely

I admire your guts though. you have plugged away at this and although it perhaps didn't quite turn out how you planned yet, it has certainly improved along the way. time to get back to basics though.

As much as rhino says to start new I hate to leave things unfinished, I think im just gonna paint the last suttle details and then put it in a vault....then light the vault on fire, while dropping it in the lowest reaches of the ocean, incased in diamond so you cant break it either.

Im really getting annoyed with looking at humans until I get my freedom of teach figure (wont be here for like another 3 weeks)

I think I might work on my Dawn of war building until then....

no refernce no point right now...
